This Holly 70th Birthday Book was made as a special 70th birthday surprise gift.
Firstly, each of Holly’s friends and family received and filled a loose page of this book with memories and photos. Secondly, I received them all in the mail ready for assembly. Thirdly, I sewed them all together for a strong binding. This book became a very personalized leather birthday scrapbook.
A carved and embossed Holly leaf represents the recipients name, “Holly.” Individually carved holly berries contain hidden wires before wrapping by suede burgundy leather. In specific, these wires were used to attach the berries firmly to the cover. “70” accents the tops of two berries, thereby representing Holly’s 70th birthday.
Copper wire edges the book both on the outer edge and along the tan leather curve. Handmade paper lines the interior as cover sheets. Headbands are handstitched directly onto the spine ends with beige and burgundy threads. The spine of the Holly 70th Birthday Book is reinforced with 55 lb. tensile strength fabric for heirloom durability. This fabric wraps around the spine as well and hides under the leather.
