Description
As a restoration project, this Refurbished Mother Of Pearl Bible required full dismantling. The Mother of Pearl mosaic was removed from the original loose cover of this antique Bible. The cover design required repair of a few shell segments, which were missing.
Brand new Mother of Pearl segments were cut and beveled to shape to match the original design. Subsequently, these segments formed a complete panel, so it looked like new.
The Mother of Pearl Bible needed all new construction. Firstly, new cover boards attach to the Bible. Secondly, A double layer of 55 pound tensile strength fabric reinforces the hinges to ensure strength and heirloom quality. Thirdly, smooth gray leather wraps around the new coverboards. And finally, I attached the newly restored Mother of Pearl panel to the new coverboards.
The spine includes five raised cords embossed under the gray leather.
Two metallic ribbon page markers attach to the top spine edge. Specifically, one silver and one mesh copper. To carry over the metallic accents, silver marbled handmade paper lines the interior of the covers as endsheets.
Handstiched headbands protect the spine ends of the Refurbished Mother of Pearl Bible. In other words, I wrap leather cords on each spine end with thread colors to compliment the color scheme. In this instance, silver and copper threads sew directly into the spine ends.
