Description
This red, white, and blue leather book commemorates an astronaut who piloted the Space Shuttle.
This commissioned book features a handcarved Scape Shuttle on the cover. White leather wraps snugly around it to emboss the sculpture with black leather accents. In addition, silver wire accents the edges of the wings.
The Space Shuttle Book showcases an askew shape. In specific, the pages were first hand sewn together. Next, archival permanently flexible glue brushed onto the spine, followed by hand hammering to round and tighten the spine. Then the pages were placed in a clamp. The trick entails squishing the pages into an angled shape and then trimming each individual page one at a time with a razor blade. Indeed a very slow process.
The book contains multicolored acid-free pages, bound around five angled leather binding cords which extend onto the front and back covers.
Thick textured blue handmade paper lines the inner covers as endsheets.
Handstitched headbands protect the spine ends. I wrapped leather cords on each spine edge with red and blue threads to compliment the patriotic color scheme. They are sew directly into the spine ends for firm attachment.
