Stained Glass Tulip Bible

Description

This Stained Glass Tulip Bible required refurbishment.  Loose pages escaped from the binding and needed to be reattached.  For the fix, a Japanese binding technique now holds the pages firmly together.   

A blue leather border frames a stained glass tulip shaped window through the cover.  In addition, green leather wraps around the stem and leaves of the tulip.  It includes hidden wires to affix the stem and leaves to the cover for a very permanent strong bond.

Copper wire accents the curve between the blue and green leathers.  Also, the wire serves as a highlight to add texture and shine.

Handmade floral paper lines the inner covers an endsheets. Therefore, the botanical theme carries through to the interior.

I removed the original covers.  Subsequently, the new extra strong cover boards affix to the Tulip Bible for optimum durability.  This includes a double layer of 55 pound tensile strength fabric reinforcement at the hinges for extra sturdiness. 

In addition, archival permanently flexible glue safeguards the book for a lifetime of use.  Therefore, most importantly, the hinges and spine will not crack over time like some books do.  Instead, they will remain soft and flexible.

The old stick-on headbands of the Stained Glass Tulip Bible were removed.  Instead, handstitched genuine headbands replace them.  I wrapped leather cords with blue and green thread, sewn directly onto the spine edges. 

 A built-in purple leather bookmark pairs with a green ribbon as pagemarkers.  They attach to the upper spine for functionality as well as a splash of color.
