As a custom order, this Sunflower Bible features smooth gold leather on the cover. Black leather wraps around the spine and back cover, bordered by copper wire between the leathers. Therefore, the black leather assists in keeping the back cover clean as the Bible is handled or rests on a table top.
The sunflower is handcarved and embossed under the leather. In specific, the gold leather application occured one half inch at a time. I brushed glue onto the sculpture in small increments and worked the leather into the grooves until the glue dried. Subsequently, the leather covers the entire sunflower by this very slow process.
A copper wire swirl accents the center of the sunflower. Both the copper swirl and copper wire by the spine were handhammerd to produce a faceted finish.
Textured handmade paper lines the inner covers as endsheets in the Sunflower Bible.
Handstitched headbands protect the spine ends of the Bible. In other words, I wrapped leather cords on each spine edge with gold and black threads to compliment the color scheme. They are sew directly into the spine ends.
A double layer of 55 pound tensile strength fabric reinforces the hinges to ensure strength and heirloom quality. In addition, archival permanently flexible glue safeguards the book.
