Refurbishment was required for this charmingly small antique Bible. It now showcases a Garden Gate Bible theme.
Repairs took place to the binding before brand new cover boards were attached. The pages have been restitched in three places to reinforce the binding.
Soft suede gray leather stretches over the design. Is a result, the texture encourages handling.
Handmade copper elements form the vine, hinges, and door handle. Specifically, soldering holds all the individual copper leaves in place directly over the glass window. Also, some leaves affix to the door with wire to hold them firm. In addition, hand hammered copper grounding wire and sheet copper form the door hardware.
Eight individual glass window panes have been soldered together. Through the window one can see the turquoise handmade metallic marbled paper lining the interior.
Two green ribbon bookmarks attach at the top of the spine of the Garden Gate Bible. Handstiched headbands protect the spine ends. In other words, I wrap leather cords on each spine end with thread colors to compliment the color scheme. In this instance, turquoise and green threads sew directly into the spine ends.
A double layer of 55 pound tensile strength fabric reinforces the hinges to ensure strength and heirloom quality. In addition, and most importantly, archival permanently flexible glue safeguards the book for a lifetime of durability. Specifically, this ensures that the binding will never crack like some old books do with inferior glue.
